I'm in Poland!
I wish I had the energy to write about Poland, but it's been an exhausting three days. Suffice to say, my current life purpose may have been slightly changed in that short time. I am beginning to take seriously the idea of coming back to Poland just after graduation to live for a year and do work that is very much needed in this country, both in its small developing Jewish communities and in the organizations that exist to preserve the memory of prewar Polish Jewish life. Krakow is a really great city- nothing like Prague, of course- but nice enough that I can fairly easily picture myself living here. I'm even picking up the language, sort of, in that a lot of the language is similar to Czech, of which I know enough now to have a broken and simple conversation with someone who knows a few words in English.
There will be more later, especially regarding today, which was devoted to touring Auschwitz and Birkenau. Photos to come upon my return to Prague.
